    Medication Reminders

Long before seniors progress to mid- or later stages of dementia or Alzheimer’s they begin to forget “the little things.”

Daily medication doses are often forgotten altogether or – more dangerous – a senior who isn’t sure if s/he forgot to take medication may take a repeat dose more than once “just to be sure,” and this can have serious consequences.

Upon request, personal care services can include medication reminders.

We may also be able to handle the calling in and/or picking up of prescription refills, even scheduling doctor’s appointments as needed so medications can be reviewed and refilled.

For some people, daily medications are a literal lifesaver. Adhering to daily medication instructions contributes to overall physical health and well-being.

    Bathing & Toileting

The bathroom is one of the most dangerous rooms in the home.

Above and beyond cleanliness and hygiene issues, support with bathing keeps seniors safe and free from unnecessary injuries that lead to hospital stays or surgical interventions.

After your in-home consultation, our team would be happy to make recommendations about how to create a safer and more accessible bathroom. Just ask us for assistance and our team can help with all, or some, of these changes.

We’ll help seniors safely enter and leave the bathroom as well as the bath tub/shower. We can help them get on and off the toilet, change adult diapers, and can perform bathing rituals as needed.

    Grooming and Dressing

Forgoing basic daily grooming habits – like brushing hair and teeth, changing clothes, shaving, keeping nails trimmed neatly, etc. – often fall by the wayside as we age.

Additionally, it can be challenging and frustrating to put on fresh, clean clothes every day when mobility issues, physical restrictions, or dementia are present. Weight loss as a result of aging or age-related health conditions can also make it impossible to wear nice, clean clothes that fit.

A notable absence of grooming habits is often a sign indicating a senior needs additional support to live independently, and our caregivers are happy to help with all of the grooming and dressing basics.

    Transfers

Many of the things we do to ready ourselves each day require physical transfers – from a bed to standing, from standing to sitting, from one room to another, from the bathroom to the wheelchair, etc.

If mobility, strength and/or balance are an issue – these routine transfers become trickier – or impossible.

Homecare aides facilitate safe transfers throughout the day, allowing seniors to remain as autonomous and independent as possible – but always there to provide a hand or complete support as needed to prevent slips or falls.
