There are some perks to being a senior! Here are some fun national discounts or specials that seniors can enjoy with your company. Take them out for a fun day and make them feel special!

1. Have a night at the movies.

Regal Entertainment, AMC and Cinemark all offer discounts to senior citizens. With Regal Entertainment, senior tickets are available at discounted prices every day, and AARP members can get a $3 discount on a popcorn and fountain drink combo. Cinemark offers discounted ticket prices for seniors on certain days of the week, which vary by location, and AMC offers discounted prices for seniors every Monday at participating locations.

2. Ride the bus.

If you’re planning a trip in another town, hop on a Greyhound bus and enjoy a 5 percent discount on all senior tickets! Keep in mind that you will only receive this discount if you ask for it, and it cannot be combined with any other special offers.

3. Take a trip.

Take a trip somewhere special and stay in one of the many hotels that offer senior discounts to AARP members. Hotels participating in this discount program include Comfort Suites, Best Western, Days Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, Hilton, Hyatt, Hampton, Ramada and many more. Some independently-owned resort hotels may also offer discounts to senior citizens or AARP members.

4. Go out to dinner.

A variety of restaurants offer senior discounts and/or a senior member to patrons over a certain age. Some restaurants that offer discounts to seniors include Denny’s, Papa John’s, Golden Corral, Outback Steakhouse, Carraba’s Italian Grill, Applebee’s, Arby’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and IHOP. While some of these discounts are available to all seniors, others are available to AARP members only.

5. Ride the rails.

If you’re in the mood for a nice train ride, Amtrak offers discounted tickets to travelers over the age of 65. The current discount amount is 15 percent off the lowest available fare, and it is valid on most trains. Seniors traveling Amtrak trains operated by Rail Canada may qualify for a 10 percent senior discount as long as they are over the age of 60.

6. Enjoy a national park.

For only $10, any permanent resident or U.S. citizen over the age of 62 can purchase a lifetime “America the Beautiful” pass. Holders of this pass can visit any of more than 2,000 federal recreation sites and national parks all over the country. Seniors who hold this pass may also receive a 50 percent discount on some of the amenities available from these facilities, such as boat launch, swimming and camping. Seniors can apply for this pass in person at a federal recreation site or by mail. However, mailed applications require a $10 processing fee.
